Henry was born in 1582 in Cowthorpe, Yorkshire, England.  Henry's father was Henry Petty and his mother was Ann Thackeray.  He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Oswald, George, Robert, Helenor and Kathryn.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 53 in 1635 in Cowthorpe, Yorkshire, England.
