Ann was born in 1854 in Slaidburn, Yorkshire, England.  Ann's father was John Petty and her mother was Alice Robinson.  Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Petty and Ann (Petty).  She had a brother named Richard T.  She was the older of the two children.
