Alfred, known as The Great, was born about 0848.  The Great's father was King Æthelwulf of House Wessex and his mother was Queen Consort Osburh.  His paternal grandfather was Ecgberht Ecgberht/Egbert of House Wessex. He had three brothers named Æthelred The 1., Æthelbald and Æthelberht.  He died on October 26th, 0899.
