Arye Leib's father was Shalom Yosef Ziffer and his mother was Hadas Reif.  His paternal grandparents were Yaakov Zvi Ziffer and Henna Yenta Graup; his maternal grandparents were  Yaakov Reif and  Sara Lea.  He was the fifth of six children.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Yona , Moshe, Zvi Hersch, Sara Lea and Rivka.
