Leib was born in 1882.  Leib's father was Isak Spiler and his mother was Beile Ziffer.  His maternal grandparents were  Shelomo Samuel Ziffer and  ?.  He was the second of four children.  He had a brother and two sisters, named Salomon Hersch, Cirl and Gitel.
