Robert was born on January 20th, 1819 in Boxted, Essex, England and his baptism took place there on February 3rd, 1822.  Robert's father was William Biggs and his mother was Susan. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, Issac, Henry, James, Alfred, Mary, Mary, Eliza, Charlotte and Julia.  He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
