James was born about January 1st, 1843 in Upcott, Somerset and his baptism took place on January 29th, 1843 in Withiel Florey Parish Church, Somerset.1 2   James' father was William Greenslade and his mother was Jane BAKER.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Greenslade and his paternal grandmother is Hannah Voices; his maternal grandparents were ROBERT BAKER and Frances  Burge. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Robert, William, Mary, Jane and Hannah.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven known children.
