William was born about 1836.  William's father was William BAKER and his mother was Charlotte Rowe.  His paternal grandfather was ROBERT BAKER and his paternal grandmother is Susannah Webber; his maternal grandfather is William Rowe and his maternal grandmother was Alice. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Charles, Mary Ann, Jane and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
