George was born in 1870 in Southampton.  George's father was Charles Edward Redstone and his mother was Ellen.  His paternal grandparents were James Redstone and Sarah.  He was the fifth of nine children.  He had two brothers and six sisters, named Alfred, William, Ellen, Kate, Edith, Florence, Eva and Sarah.
