Mona was born in 1903.  Mona's father was Harold William Smith and her mother was Clara Maud Mead.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Seymour Mead and Mary-Anne Draper.  She was the second of three children.  She had two sisters named Iris and Barbara.  She died in Cape Town.
