Jeremiah was born in 1876.  Jeremiah's father was James Gye and his mother was Mary Anne Durnford.  His paternal grandparents were William Gye and Sophie Keyte.  He was the sixth of nine children.  He had two brothers and six sisters, named William, Joseph, Sarah, Florence, Elizabeth, Winfred, Emily and Hester.
