John was born on November 27th, 1804 in Kingwood, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA.1  John's father was Jacob Minerd Jr and his mother was Catherine Younkin (Minerd).  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Henry Minerd and Maria Margaret Neun; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Michael “John” Younkin and Catharina Dorsheimer (Younkin). He had six brothers and two sisters, named Burket, Henry, Jacob, Charles, Joel, Eli, Laura and Catherine.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 74 on November 12th, 1879 in Normalville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1 

John's family

John and Hannah were married in a religious & civil ceremony about 1826.1  They had a son and six daughters, named Martin, Catherine, Henry, Sarah, Susanna, Joanna and Hannah.
