Samuel was born in 1868.  Samuel's father was Mr Alexander Murdock and his mother was Sarah Edmundson.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Archibald Murdock and Jane. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Charles, John, Alexander, Archibald, Frederick, Alfred, Alfred, Robert, Margaret, Sarah, Minnie, Grace and Jane.  He was the nineth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 75 in 1943.  His burial was in St Keverne Cemetry Oldcastle.
