Ellen was born in 1894 in Tarbolton.  Ellen's father was Charles Ross and her mother was Ellen Quin.  Her paternal grandparents were William Ross and Agnes Wilson; her maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Rose Anne Quin. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Rosean and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
