Gavin was born on August 22nd, 1792 in Baccasetter, Dunrossness.  Gavin's father was John Goudie and his mother was Agnes  Robertson.  His paternal grandparents were Gavin Goudie and Margaret Johnsdaughter.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 87 on October 15th, 1879 in Claypots, Sandwick.
