Fr. Arulappan's father is Selvanayagam, Puthur and his mother is Shanthammal.  His maternal grandparents are Devani Madalaimuthu and Siluvaiyammal. He has two brothers and four sisters, named William,  Puthur, Savariappan, Puthur, Anthoniammal, to Dasarapalli, Mariananatham, Sr. Motcham, St.Mary's at Salem and Santha Maria, in Bangalore.
