Robert was born in 1875.  Robert's father was William Stodart and his mother was Fanny Duff.  His maternal grandparents were James Duff and Margaret  Howard. He had four brothers and a sister, named Frederick, Norman, Reginald, Guy and Rose.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
