Edward was born in 1786.  Edward's father was William Webster and his mother was Anna Hodge.  His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Webster and Dorothy Hills; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Hodge and Lydia Welles. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Zenas, Hiram, Earl, Electa, Pamelia, Anna, Diroxalana and Julia.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
