Valdimar was born in 1209.  Valdimar's father was Valdimir II King of Denmark and his mother was Margaret of Bohemia.  His paternal grandparents were Valdimir I King of Denmark and Shopia Valdimirovna of Novogorod. He had three half-brothers named Eric IV King of Denmark, Abel King of Denmark and Christoper I  King of Denmark .  He died at the age of 22 in 1231.
