Rudolf's father was Emperor Leopold II and his mother was Maria Louisa.  His paternal grandparents were Francis I King of Spain and Maria Theresa Queen of Spain; his maternal grandparents were Charles III King of Spain and Maria Amalia of Saxony. He had seven brothers named Ferdinand Grand Duke of Tuscany, Charles, Joseph Palatine of Hungary, John Vicar-General, Rainer Viceory of Lombardy, Louis and Francis II Emperor.
