Adalbert's father was Louis I Augustus King of Bavaria and her mother was Theresa of Saxony.  Her paternal grandparents were Maximilian I Joseph King of Bavaria and Withelmine of Damstadt. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Luitpold Regent, Otto King of Greece, Maximilian II King of Bavaria, Adelgunde, Hildegarde and Mathilda.
