Rene was born in 1752.  Rene's father was Joseph (Dit Fluzan) Leger and his mother was Clarie  Leblanc.  His paternal grandparents were Jacques Pierre Leger and Anne Amirault (Dite Tourangeau; his maternal grandparents were Rene Jean LeBlanc and Anne Theriault. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph (Dit La Petite Houppe), Francois, Marie, Anastasie, Marguerite and Rosalie.
