Meenke was born on August 31st, 1849 in Bagband, Aurich, Lower Saxony, Germany.1   Meenke's father was Heye Renken Wiemers and his mother was Frauke Gerdes. He had a brother and a sister, named Meine and Eintje.  He was the youngest of the three children.

Meenke and Maria were married in a religious ceremony in 1875 in Filsum, Lower Saxony, Germany.1
