William was born on April 22nd, 1851 in Blount Township, Vermilion County, Illinois.1   William's father was Enoch Van Vickle and his mother was Nancy White.  His paternal grandparents were Evert VanVickle and Sarah White. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Evert, John, Enoch, Elizabeth and Harriet.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 11 on July 13th, 1862 in Blount Township, Vermilion County, Illinois.  He was buried at the Johnson Cemetery, Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois.1 1
