Gerd was born on April 5th, 1900 in Strackholt, Aurich, Lower Saxony, Germany.  Gerd's father was Focke Arends Pollmann and his mother was Gretje Gerdes Focken.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 76 on January 14th, 1977.

Gerd and Ina were married in a religious ceremony on February 20th, 1924 in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Marvin, Roger and Ruby.
