Martha's father was John Hathaway and her mother was Hannah Burt. Her paternal grandparents were John Hathway and Martha Shepherd; her maternal grandparents were James Burt and Anna. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Jacob, Issac, John, Thomas, Ephraim, Abigail, Experience, Hannah and Sarah.-
