Elna was born on July 17th, 1863. Elna's father was John Q Johnson and her mother was Margaret Sutherland. Her maternal grandparents were Eli Sutherland and Thankful Russell. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Warren, Dewitt, Jared, Mary, Lousia, Welcome, Harty, Lucy and Minnie. She was the second youngest of the ten children.
