Jan Barend van Blerk

- Wolraad Woltemade (c.1708 – 1 June 1773) was a South African dairy farmer, who died while rescuing sailors from the wreck of the ship De Jonge Thomas in Table Bay on 1 June 1773.
  
  Jan Barend van Blerk was a gunner on that ship.

Jan was born on May 24th, 1739. Jan's father was Nicolaas van Blerk and his mother is Dina van Deventer. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Rogier, Nicolaas, Simon, Francois and Catharina. He died at the age of 34 in 1773.
