O cronista açoriano Padre Gaspar Frutuoso nas suas "Saudades da Terra", livro escrito entre 1560 e 1580, dá-a como "filha de Álvaro Martins de Melo irmão de Pêro Vaz de Melo 1º Conde da Atalaia".
Não encontrámos, até agora, qualquer referência a este irmão do 1º conde de Atalaia.
Poderia ser a mesma Beatriz de Melo que, enviuvando, voltasse a casar com João Mendes de Oliveira, sendo então filha de Vasco (e não Álvaro) Martins de Melo.
A ser Vasco o nome de seu pai, a proximidade com o 1º conde de Atalaia poderá fazê-la filha de um outro Vasco Martins de Melo, filho de Vasco Martins de Melo, senhor de Castanheira, Povos e Cheleiros
sobre o qual não dispomos de mais informações ou de um outro Vasco Martins de Melo, filho bastardo de Gonçalo Vaz de Melo, avô do 1º conde de Atalaia.
NFP diz ser filha de Vasco Martins de Melo, irmão do 1º conde de Atalaia. Mas no título de Melos, não indica nenhum irmão Vasco ao referido titular.
