António José was born about 1779 in Santa Cruz, ilha das Flôres, Açôres - PORTUGAL. António José's father was ajudante João Pimentel Armas and his mother was Susana Úrsula de S. José. His paternal grandparents are Manuel Pimentel Armas and Francisca Pimentel; his maternal grandparents are Pedro António and Antónia de S. João. He had two brothers and a sister, named Francisco Joaquim Pimentel, José Inácio and Ana Teodora de Jesus.General Notes
