Marjem, known as Yaffa, was born on July 6th, 1919 in Radzilow, Lomza Gub., Poland.  Yaffa's father was Owsiej  Mordchai Niedzwiecki (Berenson) and her mother is Krejna  Kowalska .  Her paternal grandparents were Eclhanan (Chonko) Niedzwiecki and Fruma  Malka Szemborska.  She had three brothers and four sisters, named Israel , Abram, Efroim , Gittle (Tova ), Chaja , Sara and Riwka (Soshana) .
