Sarah was born in 1878.  Sarah's father was John Richard Maplestone and her mother was Betsy Jane Blades.  Her paternal grandparents were James Dove Maplestone and Mary Richards. She had a brother and three sisters, named James, Betsy, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the fourth oldest of the five children. She had a half-sister named Minnie.  She died at the age of 36 in 1914.

Sarah and William were married in a civil ceremony on July 29th, 1903 in Lincoln witnessed by John R Mapleston, Betty Jane Mapleston.1   They had two sons and a daughter, named Billy, James and Edith.
