- Said to have come to New England in 1628. Came again in 1636 in company with George Bower, who was also from Lincolnshire.
Appeared before the court in Plymouth on January 2, 1638 for bringing a bark (i.e. a type of ship) from Green River on the Sabbath Day. He was discharged so evidently his act was deemed justifiable.
On Jan 7, 1639 he and George Bower were granted land on the Eel River, in Plymouth.
In Plymouth, on May 12, 1653, Richard Knowels was appointed to take command of a bark, which the people of Plymouth had built to help the English fight the Dutch in New Amsterdam. Before the ship could be made reade for service the war was over.
