Captain Joshua Hobart

Joshua was born in 1614 in Hingham. Joshua's father was Mr Edmund Hobart and his mother was Mrs Margaret Dewey. His paternal grandparents were Mr Henry Hobart and Mrs Mary Ball; his maternal grandparents were Mr Robert Dewey and Mrs Margaret Stayse. He died at the age of 68 on July 28th, 1682 in Massachusetts.

General Notes
- Joshua came to America with his parents in 1633. He was admitted a freeman 3 September 1634 in Charlestown. With his family, he moved to Hingham in 1635 where he resided with his older brother, Rev. Peter Hobart, who was the minister at the Old Ship Church.
  
  Joshua was a captain of an artillery company in 1641 where he served in King Philip's war. He was a representative to the General Court from Hingham in 1643 and was re-elected annualy for twenty-five years.

      In 1645 (June 28th) he prominently figured in the revolt against the authority of Lieut Anthony Eames, commanding officer of Hingham's Train Band.
      In 1674 he was chosen as Speaker of the House.
