Hugh Beaton Simpson

Hugh Beaton was born on July 21st, 1805 in Greenland, Grafton, New Hampshire.¹ Hugh Beaton's father is Samuel Simpson and his mother was Sarah Simpson. His paternal grandfather was William Simpson and his paternal grandmother is Sarah Simpson; his maternal grandfather is Unknown Simpson. He had seven brothers named James Monroe, Albert, John, Ulysses, Benjamin, Samuel and David. He died at the age of 74 in 1879 in West Rumney, New Hampshire.

General Notes
- He came with his father to Rumney in 1809. He attended the district schools of Rumney and left home when a boy to enter upon a mercantile career in Boston. For a time he studied for the Universalist ministry, but his health failed. He returned to Rumney and cared for his parents in their old age. He bought a hotel at West Rumney and conducted it, in addition to his farm and general store there, until he sold out to his son. Clinton B. Simpson, in 1861. He was a Democrat in politics and held various offices of trust and honor. He was appointed postmaster of Rumney by President Buchanan ; was selectman of the town and represented it in the state legislature.
