James (or Abraham) was born about 1759 in North Carolina.1   James (or Abraham)'s father was Joseph Hanks and his mother is Nanny Hanks.  His paternal grandfather was Luke Hanks and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Hanks.  He was an only child.  He died about 1810.1
