Ester Ruchel was born on November 2nd, 1862 in Golub-Dobrzyn, Poland.1   Ester Ruchel's father was Raphael Sonabend and her mother was Rausza Malka (Rayscha) Kohn.  Her paternal grandparents were Szmul Iciek Sonabend and Haia. She had two brothers and a sister, named Avraham, Yehuda Leib and Mindla Laia.  Avraham and Ester Ruchel were twins.
