• General Notes
  • I am proud to be teaching at the magnificent Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston, Florida.This is my twenty-second year teaching, but who's counting?  I taught for 20 of those years right here in Broward County. (12 at M.L.King, 4 at Stirling andthis is my 5th at Manatee Bay.)  In addition, I teach religious school on Wednesdays and Sundays atRamat Shalom in Plantation.
    
    I also am the founder and director of The Manatee Bay Players.  This is a drama club open to students in grades 3-5 by audition.  We will be performing Annie this year.
    
    I grew up in Miami (Kendall).  Both of my parents were teachers.  My mom, Shirah Penn (Gramma Shirah) recently retired from Miami-Dade County after 42 years of teaching primary children.  She's a frequent visitor to our classroom.
    I guess she misses the kids! My dad, Louis Heilberg,  taught English and TV Production at Coral Park and Hialeah Miami Lakes High Schools.
    I attended Miami Killian, Palmetto and finally Miami Sunset Senior High Schools.  After high school, I went to BCC for two years before getting my BA in Elementary Education from FAU in 1985.
    I am married and have a beautiful and talented 17 year old daughter.  She is a senior at Cypress Bay.
    
    I love my three cats, Lola, Tilly and Libbie.
    
    In my spare time (the little bit that I have.....) I enjoy reading-especially Harry Potter, Nicholas Sparks and Danielle Steele, shopping and being a "stage" mom.
    
    I completed my Gifted Endorsement in the summer of 2004 and am enjoying the challenges of teaching the fourth grade gifted class at Manatee Bay.
