Samuel was born about 1826 at Twinstead Essex St John the Evangalist.  Samuel's father was William Winch (b WickhamStPaul) and his mother was Harriett Braybrooke (b Middleton Essex).  His paternal grandparents were William Winch (b Gt Henny Ag Lab) and Hannah Abrams (b Pebmarsh).  He was an only child.
