Mary was born about September 1835 in Barking Essex and her christening took place on September 27th, 1835 at St Margaret's Barking.1   Mary's father was John Groves ( Sawyer) and her mother was Amy Simmans.  Her maternal grandparents were William Simmans (LinenDraper) and Sarah Belchar. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Joseph, Henry, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.  She died in March 1906 in Romford Infirmary.2
