David was born on July 20th, 1840 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on July 26th, 1840 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.1   David's father was William Douss (Fisherman) and his mother was Sarah Ann Williams (of Ipswich).  His paternal grandparents were JOHN Douss and ANN. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Alexander, James, Elizabeth and Eliza.
