    This William Lee's father, Thomas, was born in Bridgetown, St.
    Michael's Parish, Barbados on February 6, 1711. He married Mary Giles
    in 1733 and they moved from Barbados to Charles Town, as it was then
    called, in 1734 where he was a successful carpenter, contractor and
    architect. Mary Giles Lee died May 26, 1757 and is buried on the
    grounds of St. Phillip's Church in Charleston. Thomas remarried, to
    Jane Bee, in 1758. His will of 1769 mentions a brick house on Elliot
    Street and "My Negroe Carpenter Slave Man, named Tomm...my Negroe
    Fellow Named Hampshire, and of Three Slave wenches, severally Named
    Rinah, Charity, Old Venus, and of Two of the said Rinah's Children's
    serverally named little Hampshire and little Rinah and all ot their
    future issue and Offspring..., my Horse and Riding Chair...half part
    of my Plate and Kitchen and Household Furniture...."

       "Little is known of Thomas Lee, but there are records in Charleston
    of the birth of his children by his wife Mary Giles.  Form the records
    in St. Michael's Parish, Barbados, it is known that he was the first
    son of Francis Lee, Attorney-at-Law and Mary Barnell, that he was born
    in Bridgetown, St. Michael's Parish, Barbados on February 6,
    1710/1711, that he  married Mary Giles, April 1, 1733 in St. Michael's
    Parish, Barbados, and that they had a son Francis, born January 16,
    1734."

    "... He bequeathed a brick house on Ellitot Street, facing south, two
    tenements, and seven slaves.  One Negro carpenter slave man named
    Tomm, one Negro fellow named Hampshire, three slave wenches named
    Rimah, Charity, and Old Venus and two of Rinah's children, named
    Little Hampshire and Little Rinah."
