Addington was born on June 5th, 1835 in Wayne Co, KY.

Addington 's father was David Bruton and his mother was Molina Keaton. His paternal grandparents were David Bruton and Rosanna Tedford. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Sherrod, James , Marian, Rosanna and Rebecca. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 87 on May 13th, 1923 in Sumner County, Tenn.
