    Nancy Robeson Wise is the daughter of James Robeson and Elizabeth Stafford [according to] a biography of Thomas H. Robeson in a Franklin County history:
    
    "The paternal grandparents of Thomas H. Robeson were James Robeson and wife, the former of whom was born in North Carolina and came to Kentucky early in life, and later, about 1809, settled in Franklin county, Indiana, his death occurring in this county in 1871.  Grandmother Robeson died in 1858 in Ripley county, Indiana, at the home of one of her daughters, Mrs. Nancy Wise.
    
    "[...] "John Robeson, father of the gentleman whose name appears as the caption of this sketch, received his education in the schools of his district and was a farmer in that same neighborhood all his life.  He owned several farms at various times in his life and died in the old log and stone house on Blue creekwhere George B. was born.  Here he had one hundred and twelve acres in an excellent state of cultivation.  He and all the members of his family were members of the Christian church, faithful adherence to the tenets of which all those surviving have ever since maintained."

    "Thomas H. Robeson, the son of John and Sophronia (Herndon) Robeson, was born in Highland township, Franklin county, Indiana, September 25, 1840.  His father was born in Kentucky, January 2, 1809, and his mother was probably born in Franklin county, Indiana, in 1813.  His parents had five children:  Nancy, William, Thomas H., Sarah Ann, and one who died in infancy.  The first wife of John Robeson died in 1855, and he later married Ann Catherine Lawrence, to which second union four children were born, James, Mary, George and Michael.  Michael is the only one of the second marriage now living.  The father of these children died in 1888."

    1840 US Census for Franklin Cty, IN, James ROBESON 00010001, thus one male 50-60 y.o. (b est 1780-1790), one male 15-20 (1820-1825) and one female 50-60 (1780-1790) (NB dtr Nancy 1814 reportedly married in 1835, thus not here).  On same page is John ROBESON age 30-40 (1800-1810) 000001-010001, and Abraham ROBESON age 20-30 (1810-1820) 10001-110001.  Only other ROBESON (exact) heads of h/hold in Fountain, IN in 1840 are Henery (sic) age 40-50 (b est 1790-1800) 1000001-012101 on page 301, William age 20-30 (1810-1820) 11001-12001 on page 304; and another William, also age 20-30 (1810-1820) 10001-10001 on page 295.  Note presence of Samuel and Parker WISE (misindexed as WIRE) in same county in 1840; Nancy ROBESON 1814 d/o James m. Parker WISE 1835.  (Note:  Ancestry has misindexed these records as being from Fountain Cty, IN, but see note from Franklin Cty, IN GenWeb below.)

    1830 US Census for Switzerland Cty, IN (SE of Indianapolis, where OH, IN and KY meet), has James ROBESON 0110001-0212001, thus one male age 40-50 (b est 1780-1790) (James), one male 10-15 (1815-1820), and one male age 5-10 (1820-1825), one female age 40-50 (1780-1790), two females age 15-20 (1810-1815) (one could be Nancy),  one female age 10-15 (1815-1820), and two females age 5-10 (1820-1825), on same pg is a Jonathan ROBESON 00001, thus one male age 15-20 (b est 1810-1815), and one female age 15-20 (1815-1810) (this could be John 1809 and first wife) (Roll: 32, Page: 62) (no other ROBESON on page, roughly alphabetical).
    
    Note also, on next page, James ROBESON 01001-10001, thus one male age 20-30 (b est 1800-1810) (James), one male age 5-10 (1820-1825), one female age 20-30 (1800-1810), and one female age 0-5 (1825-1830) (Roll: 32, Page: 63).  Only other ROBESON on page is Jonathan ROBESON 00210001-00000001, thus one male age 50-60 (1770-1780), one male age 15-20 (1810-1815), two males age 10-15 (1815-1820), and one female age 50-60 (1770-1780).
    No other ROBESON in Switzerland, IN in 1830.  An Isaac ROBESON is indexed as being on page 63, but he does not appear there or among the other 'R' enumerants (roughly alphabetical on original record).

    son George B.'s biography:
    "George B. Robeson [...] was born in 1863 on the farm in which he still makes his home and on which he has resided all his life.  He first saw the light of day in the old stone house on the paternal farm, which now is occupied by his son.  George B. is the son of John and Catherine Ann (Whitehead) Robeson, the former of whom was born in Kentucky, June 18, 1810, and who came to Franklin county with his parents when he was but one year old, the family locating in the neighborhood in which they spent the remainder of their lives.  Catherine Ann (Whitehead) Robeson was a member of one of the pioneer families of Dearborn county.
    
    "George B. Robeson's paternal grandfather, James Robeson, was for many years one of the most prominent residents of Dearborn county, and it is still recalled by those whose memories go back to the traditions of pioneer days that no gathering of the neighborhood folk in those early days was complete without him.  He was not only famous as a "fiddler," the strains of whose rollicking music were considered necessary to the success of all social meetings of the day, but he was already noted as a skillful Nimrod, whose [breaks off]"
