• Birth Notes

  DoB from her headstone which gives her age as 54 when she died in 1859.

Agnes' father was James McCook and her mother was Mary Ann McIlhouse. She had two brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Mary, ???? and Sarah.  She died at the age of 54 on January 1st, 1859.

• Death Notes

  The date of her death is illegible on her gravestone in 1st Kilrea PC.  She died before 1869 because her husband was a widower at death.  Jim Gordon, who did a rubbing of the gravestone on his visit from Connecticut in June 2005, says that he thinks the stone may have the date of death as 1859.  Jim and I cleaned the stone.  It says, "Died Jan-1-1859 aged 54".

• General Notes

  Wife of the John Gordon who appears to be the grandfather of Thomas Gordon, my grandfather. Her gravestone gives her name as Agnes but all the baptism entries in 1st Kilrea have her as Nancy. Her name is left blank in the marriage entry in 1st Kilrea!! Furthermore, her father's name in the marriage entry is (Blank) McCook, while she is McCook only for her first second and sixth children in the baptism entries, the rest being Cooke!  Marriage gives her residence as Doolaghy.  The 1901 census has three Cooke households in Dullaghy. All three appear to be the offspring of two men, James and John Cooke, who are most likely Nancy McCooke's brothers. The Candidates for Communion list in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church Session minutes shows her joining the church as Nancy Gordon , Lislea in October 1836.
