Hugh was born on October 11th, 1898. Hugh's father was William Montgomery [Crosscandly] Boyd and his mother was Margaret Jane Hutchinson.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Boyd and Margaret Usher. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Annie and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the four children.
