John McLatchie (McClatchie or M'Clatchie) (reputedly a soldier of The King in defence of the Empire during the American colonial insurrection or rebellion in the Thirteen Colonies, etc.) was born in 1737 (according to his tombstone), a close kinsman (reputedly in the degree of brother, uncle, nephew or possibly cousin) to James McLatchie (McClatchie, McClatchy or McLatchy) who married Janet Weir, (to whom refer), as well as to James McLatchie (McClatchie, McClatchy or McLatchy) who married Helen McTurk, (to whom also refer); died in August 1797 (according to his tombstone); buried in 1797 at the Old Cemetery, Cumnock, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland. His wife Janet (or Jennet) Crawford (or Crawfurd), (to whom he was married in February 1770 at Cumnock, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland), was born in 1750 (according to her tombstone); died in November 1800 (according to her tombstone); buried in 1800 at the Old Cemetery, Cumnock, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland. This couple begat issue: (1) Hugh McLatchie, born 15 February 1771 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 17 February 1771 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, died 21 January 1840 at or near West Templeton, Templeton Township, Montréal District, Lower Canada, buried in 1840 at the McLatchie Cemetery, West Templeton, Templeton Township, Montréal District, Lower Canada, who married 29 June 1792 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, Sarah Lockie; (2) Janet McLatchie, born 27 December 1772 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 3 January 1773 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, who married 27 January 1795 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, Thomas Hamilton; (3) Marjory McLatchie, born 12 January 1775 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 15 January 1775 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, who married in October 1799 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, William McCall; (4) John McLatchie, born 1 December 1776 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 10 December 1776 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, who married in October 1799 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, Jane (or Jean) Ker (or Kerr); (4A?) reputedly, (according to one tradition), James McLatchie, allegedly born on or about 11 February 1778 about the time of his father's departure for military service in the Americas but in any case not subsequently recorded as having been christened in his father's absence anywhere in the Parish Registers of the Established Kirk of Scotland, but may equally possibly or probably have been christened 24 March 1776 at New Cumnock, New Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, son to James McLatchie and Helen McTurk, (to whom also refer), (thereby being nephew or similarly close relative as is otherwise supposed according to another tradition to the said John McLatchie and Janet Crawford), who married, firstly, Lucinda Reed, and, secondly, Sarah ---; (5) Mary McLatchie, born 15 January 1785 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 16 January 1785 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland; (6) Agnes McLatchie, born 28 February 1787 probably at Sykeside, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 15 March 1787 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland; (7) Robert McLatchie (McClatchie or M'Clatchie), born 28 January 1789 probably at Sykeside, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 31 January 1789 at Cumnock, Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, died (according to his tombstone) on the date he made his will 7 June 1847 (but more probably in September 1850) probably in The Hunter Settlement, probably on Lot 13, Concession 5, Edwardsburgh Township, Johnstown Municipal District, Canada West, buried allegedly in June 1847 (but more probably in September 1850) at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Churchyard, Spencerville, Edwardsburgh Township, Johnstown Municipal District, Canada West, who married 2 July 1813 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, Jane (or Jean) Hunter; (8) Margaret McLatchie, born 11 January 1791 probably at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland, christened 19 January 1791 at Old Cumnock Parish, Kyle District, Ayr County, Scotland.
