Susan's father was William Bone and her mother was Agnes Lochart Savage.  Her paternal grandparents were David Bone and Susan Hammond. She had three brothers and two sisters, named David, Hugh, James, Elizabeth and Margaret.  She was the third oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Peter and Agnes.  She died due to a medical problem, Inanition, the result of worms, at the age of 2 on June 25th, 1870 in Ayr.²
