Robert's father was James Reddie and his mother was Janet (Jessie) Reeder. His maternal grandparents were John Reeder and Janet Hill Cunningham. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, James, Jessie, Elisabeth and Jessie. He died at the age of 63 in 1929 in Corstorphine.
