Sarah's father was Kenneth Mackenzie and her mother was Janet Ronald Milton. Her maternal grandparents were Peter Milton and Janet Ronald. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, Kenneth, Kenneth, Janet and Isabella. She was the second youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 84 in 1991 in Renfrew.
